The Clinton Bush Haiti Fund’s grants to Architecture for Humanity helped to establish and support the Haiti Rebuilding Center in Port-au-Prince, which serves as a one-stop shop for professional design and construction services. The Center enables small and growing Haitian businesses to participate in post-earthquake reconstruction and ensures that rebuilding incorporates better design and engineering.
The Rebuilding Center assists smaller Haitian construction firms as they engage in large-scale reconstruction projects. These building projects provide skills training to Haitian professionals, contributing to both short-term and long-term economic growth.
The Fund’s second grant’s focus is on helping Architecture for Humanity plan, design, and execute construction services, as well as provide training to improve competitiveness of local businesses.
Why We Invested in Architecture for Humanity
Clinton Bush Haiti Fund's grants to Architecture for Humanity reflects our commitment to helping restart, expand, and create sustainable small and growing Haitian businesses — especially in the construction sector — that can leave a lasting legacy in Haiti.
Transforming Lives and Livelihoods
With support from the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund, Architecture for Humanity:
- Created 26 new jobs and sustained 284 jobs in the construction sector during the Fund's first grant.
- Designed camp upgrades that affected more than 25,000 Haitians.
- Designed and constructed schools, helping more than 3,000 students.
- Trained builders in seismin construction techniques.
- Worked toward evolving the Rebuilding Center into a local agency.
About Architecture for Humanity
Architecture for Humanity is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit design services firm founded in 1999 which seeks to build a more sustainable future through the power of professional design. By tapping a network of more than 40,000 professionals willing to lend time and expertise to help those who would not otherwise be able to afford their services, they bring design, construction, and development services where they are most critically needed.
Each year 10,000 people directly benefit from structures designed by Architecture for Humanity, and their advocacy, training, and outreach programs impact an additional 50,000 people annually. They channel the resources of the global funding community to meaningful projects that make a difference locally. From conception to completion, Architects for Humanity manages all aspects of the design and construction process. Their clients include community groups, aid organizations, housing developers, government agencies, corporate divisions, and foundations.
