With a $1,349,483 grant from the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund, the J/P Haitian Relief Organization (J/P HRO) is retrofitting yellow-tagged (moderately damaged) homes around the Delmas 32 neighborhood of Port-au-Prince. While repairs address existing damage from the earthquake, retrofits go further, fixing existing damage while also reinforcing entire structures against future seismic and hurricane disasters.

J/P HRO, with technical support from BuildChange, works alongside homeowners and Haitian construction teams in retrofitting the homes. Together, they provide direct training and guidance throughout the construction project.

With the Fund's grant, J/P HRO is retrofitting homes for 280 families living in camps and unsafe housing in the area.

Why We Invested in J/P HRO

Clinton Bush Haiti Fund's grant to J/P HRO reflects our commitment to supporting job creation and preparing people with job and life skills, particularly in the construction sector, which lays the groundwork for longer-term reconstruction. It also reflects our near-term goal of filling critical gaps, here for safe housing in the Delmas 32 neighborhood of Port-au-Prince.

Transforming Lives and Livelihoods

The Clinton Bush Haiti Fund grant to J/P HRO is:

  • Returning close to 1,300 people into safe, permanent housing.
  • Training Haitian homeowners and construction teams in modern earthquake and hurricane construction standards.
  • Retrofitting damaged homes as a faster, more cost-efficient substitute for building new homes from the ground up.
