The Clinton Bush Haiti Fund grant of $550,600 to TechnoServe funded the establishment of mango producer groups, supported a farmer credit initiative, and equipped farmers with harvest and post-harvest tools as part of the Haiti Hope Project. By strengthening Haiti’s mango value chain and increasing farmers’ revenues, the Haiti Hope Project aims to increase long-term income for approximately 25,000 families.

The Clinton Bush Haiti Fund’s catalytic grant jump-started the project, benefitting 15,000 farmers and their families and establishing a model to be replicated throughout the sector.

Why We Invested in the Haiti Hope Project

Clinton Bush Haiti Fund's grant to TechnoServe's Haiti Hope Project reflects our commitment to restarting, expanding and creating small businesses, while empowering individuals and organizations to transition from the informal to the formal sector.

Transforming Lives and Livelihoods

  • Developed a credit model that provided more than 1,200 farmers with loans to invest in their crops and increase their revenues.
  • Financed the formation and strengthening of 20 producer business groups where farmers are trained in organizational and business skills, as well as in ways they can increase the volume and quality of their harvests.
  • Provided more than 2,200 crates to farmers to protect the quality of mangoes.
  • Convened stakeholders in the mango value chain, from farmers to exporters, to foster cooperation and improve efficiency.

About The Haiti Hope Project

The Haiti Hope Project is a partnership between The Coca-Cola Company; the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF), a member of the Inter-American Development Bank Group (IDB); the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID); TechnoServe; the Soros Economic Development Fund; and other international and local organizations. Its goal is to improve the value chain for Haitian smallholder farmers cultivating mangoes for export and domestic markets. This project will help Haiti reach its full potential in marketing mangoes, already its second most valuable agricultural export, as fresh fruit and juice extracts.
