Clinton Foundation Initial Relief Grants

The previous story of Haiti has been one of aid, and immediately following the earthquake in January of 2010, the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund made more than $4 million in Initial Relief Grants for disaster aid.

American Jewish World Service

  • Grant Announced: February 1, 2010
  • Grant Amount: $100,000
  • Purpose: To provide temporary shelter, medical assistance, food, and water for peasant farmers in Jacmel.

Catholic Relief Services

  • Grant Announced: January 28, 2010
  • Grant Amount: $300,000
  • Purpose: For immediate relief supplies.

Concern Worldwide US

  • Grant Announced: January 28, 2010
  • Grant Amount: $500,000
  • Purpose: For relief supplies, materials, and construction (water purification tablets, hygiene kits, mosquito nets, temporary latrines, jerry cans) targeting 50,000 survivors living in Saint Martin and Martissant.

Episcopal Relief and Development

  • Grant Announced: January 29, 2010
  • Grant Amount: $315,000
  • Purpose: To help run their 30,000-sq.-ft. medical clinic in Leogane for two months.

GHESKIO

  • Grant Announced: January 28, 2010
  • Grant Amount: $600,000
  • Purpose: To operate their Port -au-Prince clinic, which has been transformed into a refugee camp, serving 5,000 patients with medical care, food, and water.

Habitat for Humanity

  • Grant Announced: January 28, 2010
  • Grant Amount: $300,000
  • Purpose: For emergency shelter kits, which include: tarpaulins, rope, duct tape and a hammer, all used for building temporary shelters that help safeguard families against the elements. A chisel and a hacksaw help with salvaging materials from collapsed houses. Buckets are used for debris removal and for carrying water. Gloves and masks in the kits help provide protection during the cleanup.

International Medical Corps

  • Grant Announced: January 28, 2010
  • Grant Amount: $500,000
  • Purpose: To support mobile clinics in Haiti.

Plan International

  • Grant Announced: January 28, 2010
  • Grant Amount: $115,000
  • Purpose: To purchase water tablets, food, hygiene supplies, and household items.

UNICEF

  • Grant Announced: January 29, 2010
  • Grant Amount: $500,000
  • Purpose: To provide support for UNICEF emergency education for children whose schooling has been disrupted by the earthquake.

University of Miami Global Institute/Project Medishare

  • Grant Announced: January 29, 2010
  • Grant Amount: $500,000
  • Purpose: To support ongoing medical relief efforts for earthquake survivors and to help meet the future needs of the Haitian people. The Global Institute/Project Medishare will use CBHF funds to purchase medical equipment essential to the continued provision of urgent care to critically injured patients at the University of Miami's hospital in Haiti, a 240 bed tent hospital at the edge of the Port-au-Prince airport.

World Food Program

  • Grant Announced: January 28, 2010
  • Grant Amount: $500,000
  • Purpose: To provide food for earthquake survivors.
