The Clinton Bush Haiti Fund’s $285,646 grant to for-profit Haitian information technology firm EducaTech is using technology to improve the quality of education at INAGHEI, the State University of Haiti’s School of Management.
EducaTech is creating the university computer lab, stocked with computers, projectors, and digital boards. The lab will connect students with high speed, broadband Internet service donated by NATCOM, a telecom operator in Haiti. Equipment and training from this grant will allow the institute to actually take advantage of this connectivity.
As part of establishing this lab, EducaTech is playing a key role in workforce development at the university. It is hosting a training program so students enter the workforce with skills to succeed in the professional world. The training is focused on use of computer programs necessary for business management, such as Excel, Powerpoint, and QuickBooks, as well as use of research databases also provided by EducaTech.
Why We Invested in EducaTech
Clinton Bush Haiti Fund's grant to EducaTech reflects the mission to build Haitian capacity through training and high quality education, here at a key Haitian public institution. It also reflects the Fund's support for Haitian businesses, with this grant helping EducaTech enter the higher education market.
Transforming Lives and Livelihoods
The Clinton Bush Haiti Fund grant to EducaTech will:
- Train 70 faculty members and 50 student trainers in business management programs and computer maintenance. These trainers will go on to teach an additional 1,450 students during the first year of the computer lab;
- Connect university students with broadband Internet access;
- Use access to books and electronics to create a competitive and productive workforce to grow Haiti’s economy.
